Dr. Gerhard Steffan

LL.M., Graduate Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.), Graduate Industrial Engineer (Dipl.-Wirt. Ing.), Patent Attorney, European Patent, Trademark & Design Attorney

Dr. Steffan studied chemistry in Darmstadt from 1984 until 1990, finishing as a graduate engineer. Within the scope of his doctorate studies in biochemistry at the University of Münster (WWU) (1990-1994), he obtained in-depth knowledge in pharmaceutical chemistry and medical physics. A scholarship from the German Research Foundation (DFG) took Dr. Steffan from 1994 to 1996 to the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, USA, with the key research areas being microbiology and virology.  He then advanced his knowledge in industrial property law by attending the University of California (Berkeley). In 1999, he completed his economics studies in Hagen becoming a graduate industrial engineer, focusing on corporate law and industrial & organizational psychology. From 2003 to 2006, he studied jurisprudence in Hagen, obtaining his Master of Laws degree.

Dr. Steffan was admitted to the bar as a patent attorney in 2000 and in 2001 received his license as a European Patent Attorney. He is also entitled to represent clients before the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Unified Patent Courts which was established in 2023.

Dr. Steffan is co-founder of Steffan & Kiehne and a partner of Steffan & Kiehne Patentanwälte Partnerschaftsgesellschaft mbB.
